Florida Drivers: Impact of New York Traffic Convictions
by Seth Azria on 5/11/2015
Points in Florida if Florida Gives Points for the NY Conviction
A Florida driver will receive points on their Florida record from a ticket in New York, if Florida assesses points for that violation.
For example, a Florida driver received a ticket in New York for speeding 86 in a 65 zone. New York would assess 6 points for that conviction and Florida would assess 4 points. As a result the Florida driver would get 4 points on their Florida record. For a speeding violation more than 15 miles over the limit, Florida will assess 3 points.
Florida Suspensions and Points
A Florida driver license will be suspended if a driver accumulates:
- 12 points in 12 month period; 30 day Suspension
- 18 points in 18 month period; 3 Month Suspension
- 24 points in 36 month period; 1 Year Suspension
