Nebraska Drivers: Effect of New York Traffic Ticket Convictions

By Seth M. Azria, Esq.

How Nebraska DMV Handles New York Traffic Tickets

If you receive a traffic conviction in New York State, Nebraska will be notified of the offense because both states belong to the Driver License Compact.

If you are issued a ticket in almost any state (with minor exceptions like Georgia, Wisconsin, and Michigan), the out-of-state conviction will be posted directly to your driving record, and points will be assessed according to Nebraska law .

Need Your Nebraska Driving Record? Nebraska-licensed drivers can obtain an official copy of their motor vehicle record online directly through the Nebraska DMV Online Records Portal .

Insurance Premium Increases & NY DMV Assessments

Insurance Rate Increases: Most importantly, your auto insurance provider will almost certainly learn of your New York conviction when reviewing your updated Nebraska driving record during renewal periods. Moving violation convictions frequently lead to substantial annual premium surcharges or the loss of safe driver discounts.

NY DMV Driver Responsibility Assessment (DRA): Regardless of your home state license, the New York DMV maintains a shadow administrative record for all out-of-state drivers. Accumulating 6 or more points in New York within an 18-month window triggers mandatory Driver Responsibility Assessment fees starting at $300 ($100/year for 3 years). Failure to pay will result in a suspension of your driving privileges in New York.

Speeding

Was speeding on the Taghkanic on my way back home to the city. David secured me a judgment with 0 points and a $150 judgment. And I didn't need to leave the city. He also has a responsive and courteous staff. Highly recommend.

Speeding Violation Reduced

I incurred a speeding ticket in Syracuse while taking my nephews to Lacrosse Camp. I am from out of town and unknowingly went through a speed trap. I contacted Azria Law Firm once I returned home. They were extremely professional, courteous and prompt with all information, explanations of the legal procedure and with answers to all of my questions. It has been just over 30 days and my violation and fine have been reduced. I am very pleased and recommend the firm highly. They are reasonably priced and successfully resolved my case. In my profession, I work with lawyers all the time. I wish they were all as communicative and diligent as Seth and his staff.

Google+ Review

Being from out of state, I was happy to find a law firm that was so easy to work with. They were able to get my ticket reduced and they did all the leg work for me. Everything was very straight forward and easy to understand. Hopefully I won't need them in the future but if I do, I know where to turn!

Highly Recommend!

Azria Law Firm handled a traffic infraction on my behalf and I could not be more pleased. They were able to work with the District Attorney's office in a timely manner and they were able to negotiate a reduction to a non-moving violation. They kept me informed every step of the way providing complete confidence that the matter was being handle appropriately. They get straight get straight As for Responsiveness, Expertise, Communication, Price/Value, and Results. I do not normally provide recommendations; however, this is an exceptional law firm. I highly recommend them!
