Iowa Drivers: The Effect of New York Traffic Convictions
by Seth Azria on 4/05/2020
Iowa will Count it Against You
Both New York and Iowa both signed the Driver License Compact agreeing to share traffic ticket conviction information.
Iowa’s position on what it does when it receivers that information is:
“Convictions for moving traffic violations in other states count against your driving record in determining what action the Iowa DOT will take concerning your driving privileges.” Iowa DOT.
This means, at least that, if a New York conviction would cause a suspension in Iowa, had it occurred there, then the Iowan’s license will be suspended by Iowa. For Iowans, a ticket in NY should be treated as if it were a ticket at home.
