Indiana Drivers: Impact of New York Traffic Convictions

Indiana Counts New York Convictions on Indiana Records
Indiana and New York have both signed the Driver License Compact so the states share information about traffic convictions. If an Indiana driver is convicted in a New York court of a traffic infraction, Indiana will add the conviction to that driver’s record in Indiana.
Hoosiers Should Take Care of New York Traffic Tickets
Three reasons Indiana drivers should take a New York Traffic ticket seriously:
- Indiana will add the conviction to their record back home,
- All drivers ticketed in New York are subject to New York’s driver responsibility law. The law requires payment from any driver who accrues 6 or more points in any 18 month period. One speeding ticket 21mph over the limit is 6 points,
- Because the states share information and Indiana will add convictions to the drivers record, it is likely the insurance carrier will learn of the conviction and possibly respond negatively.
