Delaware Drivers: Impact of New York Traffic Convictions

By Seth M. Azria, Esq.
The effect of New York Traffic Tickets on Delaware Drivers

1. Information Sharing Between NY and Delaware

If you receive a traffic conviction in New York State, Delaware will be notified of the offense because both states are members of the Driver License Compact.

Will I Get Points on My Delaware License?

Yes. Once notified, Delaware may record the conviction and assess points against your Delaware license according to Delaware’s point system.

2. Hidden New York DMV Fines

The Driver Responsibility Assessment

Even if you don't live in New York, the rules still apply to your driving privileges there. If the New York ticket carries 6 or more points, in addition to the court fine, the New York DMV will impose an additional fine called a Driver Responsibility Assessment.

Being from out of state, I was happy to find a law firm that was so easy to work with. They were able to get my ticket reduced and they did all the leg work for me. Everything was very straight forward and easy to understand. Hopefully I won't need them in the future but if I do, I know where to turn!

I worked with Seth Azria on numerous traffic tickets I’ve received. Most were 4-6 point violations and all of them have been reduced to 0 points or dismissed. Highly recommend working with this firm!
