For you, it is just hiring us by paying the legal fee, sending the ticket, and then paying any fine imposed by the court. For most traffic tickets, your appearance in court is not required. Here is an outline of the process so you know what to expect.
1. Once you retain us by paying the legal fee, we send a letter to the court stating that we represent you. If your court date is coming soon we will also request an adjournment and also a copy of the ticket if you haven't provided it. Courts typically adjourn cases for several weeks at a time.
2.We meet with the prosecutor to negotiate an outcome for your ticket. These negotiations result in a disposition for your ticket, typically a reduction of the charge or a dismissal.
3. We then inform you of that disposition and if you consent, we send the proposed disposition to the court.
4. If the court agrees, it will dismiss the ticket or enter the plea to the reduced charge and issue a fine. If we can get the ticket dismissed there will be no fine.
5. We then send you the court's fine notice to you for payment.
Most all of this can be handled by mail, fax, phone and if you consent - by email. The entire process usually takes about 4-8 weeks and we will let know as soon as anything happens in your case that requires your attention. In the typical case the first time we contact you is after we have a proposed disposition in your case.
And, of course, we are always here to answer any questions or concerns you may have in the meantime.
